MATCHING GRANT F UNDRAISER!

Dear Friends

The trustees of the James O. Davenport Trust have issued a challenge grant to friends of The Spirit of Detroit Chapter of Sweet Adelines International in the amount of $5,000 to support the preparation and participation of the chorus in International competition in Calgary , Canada in October of 2007.

The Spirit of Detroit Chorus will receive the funds from the trust when it successfully collects $5,000 in matching funds from individuals and organizations that have previously shown appreciation of the art form of 4-part harmony a cappella style.

Some of you may remember James O. Davenport. For those of you who don't, he joined S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A. Inc. round 1957. Jim was one of the founders of the Ann Arbor Chapter and also encouraged the change of the district name to” The Pioneer District.” He was editor of the Michigan Troubadour – the district publication – from November 1961 through December 1963 and then again from January 1968 through June 1969. Work assignments and health issues brought about the end of his S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A. membership in the 1970's, but he remained supportive of that organization and, subsequently, of Sweet Adelines International. Jim passed away in March of 2002.

Your financial support of The Spirit of Detroit is needed to help it perform its best in competition and to advance the art form we so dearly love. We are all aware of the raising costs and of the economic conditions in our state of Michigan . Please give whatever you can – each dollar will be matched by the trust fund, up to $5,000.

Because Jim's birthday was August 11, the trustees have set that date in 2007 as the ending date for this challenge. The Spirit of Detroit Chorus is a 501 c (3) non-profit organization, so donations are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law. Checks should be payable to Spirit of Detroit Chapter. Remember, each one of your dollars will be doubled.

Sincerely,

The Spirit of Detroit Chapter
