2008 - Region #2 Champions

The Spirit of Detroit Chorus is a dynamic singing organization, dedicated to musical excellence through the education, performance, and perfection of the art of 4-part harmony in the Barbershop style. Through the "SPIRIT" of unity and mutual respect of its members, it continually strives for artistic excellence and personal growth.

In Phoenix, Arizona, in 2003, we reached a long-time goal of making it in the Top Ten at International Competition! After placing first in Region 2 Competition in 2004, we earned the right to compete in International Competition in New Orleans. Little did we know that a hurricane would change those plans.

Instead of New Orleans, the International Competition was moved to Detroit. We were so excited to have our families, friends, and Regional 2 Sweet Adeline sisters there to see us attain 13th place in our home town “Motown”.

In addition, two members of the chorus competed in a quartet in the International contest. Two members of SPOTLIGHT, LeAnn K. Hazlett (Lead) and Kendra LaPointe (Tenor), were proclaimed the 2006 International Quartet Champions. We’re very proud of them and their performances!

In April 2008, several members of the chorus competed in three different quartets in the regional contest in Dearborn. Zanadu placed 10th, Friendship Rings placed 3rd and Last Call placed 2nd.

The best part of the competition was that we won the with a regional and a chorus all time high score of 648!!!! We look forward to competiting in International Convention in Nashville, Tennessee.
